The first virtual images of a national food retailer’s “new and improved” supermarket have been revealed. Elgin’s Aldi is , between the town hall and bus station, to Elgin Retail Park on Edgar Road. have been shown to the public at an Elgin Town Hall event, with a planning application set to be sent to Moray Council towards the end of 2024. Aldi’s plan is to move into and merge vacant units 9 and 10 at Elgin Retail Park - beside PureGym. All employees working at the current store would retain their jobs, with potential for an additional 10 staff members.
The shop’s floor space would be 1193 square meters - compared to the 760 square meters at the current store. Aldi say the plans represent a £3 million investment in Elgin, and also committed to working to find an “alternate use” for the Trinity Place premises. Andy Doyle, real estate director at Aldi, said: "We are delighted to be bringing forward these proposals and were pleased to welcome members of the local community to our consultation event at the Elgin Town Hall.
"The relocation would mark an exciting milestone in Aldi's presence in Moray, and would provide an improved shopping experience for our loyal customers in the area.” Feedback provided at the town hall consultation, which took place on August 28, will be used to inform Aldi’s application prior to submission of the planning application to Moray Council. Mr Doyle added: "We have received valuable feedback on the proposals from the public already, and would encourage anyone with an interest to provide comments via the online feedback form at , which is open until September 20.
“These comments will be used to inform our planning application, which we hope to submit later this year.".
