China’s biggest tea shop, Chagee, is opening its first U.S. location in Los Angeles this spring at the Westfield Century City Mall.

Found in 2017 in Yunnan, Chagee has grown to over 6,400 locations worldwide , including across China, as well as in Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. The shop is best known for its fresh-brewed and milk teas; the menu offers drinks like a jasmine tea latte, Yunnan pu’er milk tea, and an oolong blended frappe. The shop leans into a more upscale branding that resembles that of Dior bags, with ornately decorated cups that depict horses and flowers.

Eater LA first reported about the chain’s U.S. expansion in 2024 after Westside blogger Todrickallen spotted branding at the former Sugar Factory space .

On March 25, Chagee became one step closer to opening its Los Angeles location when it filed for a U.S. initial public offering (IPO), multiple sources report.

If approved, the company will trade on the Nasdaq with the ticker CHA. The filing also revealed that Chagee’s revenue had grown to 12.41 billion Chinese yuan in 2024 (about $1.

7 billion), up from 4.64 billion the year prior. The U.

S. IPO will likely allow the brand to court stateside investors. The IPO comes as trade tensions between China and the U.

S. build amid the threat of Trump administration tariffs. In early March, the administration imposed an additional 10 percent tariff on goods from China on top of an existing 10 percent tariff implemented in February.

Lawmakers in China responded to the March action with additional tariffs of up to 15 percent on some goods imported from the U.S. The effects of the tariffs on Chagee’s planned expansion are yet to be seen.

When it opens, Chagee will join a lineup of dining options at Westfield Century City, including Eataly, Haidilao, Din Tai Fung, and the recently opened Chamberlain Coffee . This year, the mall is also set to welcome Super Peach, a restaurant from the Momofuku group , as well as Katsuya and Casa Dani . Sign up for our newsletter.
