Hyderabad: In a clear indication of the prevailing situation in the State, especially with unemployed youth, contract employees and farmers staging protests apart from attacks on religious structures, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said maintenance of law and order was crucial. Claiming that the State government was delivering good governance and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere, the Chief Minister said if a State or a country had to march ahead in development, law and order had to be under control.

More so, the existing situation will deteriorate further and create crisis and the country will be at loss,” Revanth Reddy said at the Police Flag Day Parade here on Monday. He complimented the State Police for their relentless efforts in ensuring peace and law and order.

Referring to the Muthyalamma Temple desecration in Secunderabad , the Chief Minister said a few people under the influence of vested interest groups were attacking religious structures. Considering the mental status of the attackers and the prevailing circumstances, the Police Department was acting swiftly and arresting them immediately. A strong message was being sent by the department that irrespective of the status, stern action would be initiated against those involved in such crimes, he said.

Appealing to the people to be patient when such incidents occur and cooperate with the government, the Chief Minister said no one should take the law into their hands. If so, there would not be any difference between the criminals and people, he stressed and wanted citizens to lodge complaints with police and the rest would be handled by the department. “We can celebrate Ganesh or Bakrid festivities peacefully, only when law and order is under control,” he said.

The Chief Minister specifically instructed the police not to maintain a friendly policing approach towards criminals. Friendly policing was about adopting a friendly attitude towards the public but not maintaining friendship with criminals, he said to the department. “Irrespective of how many good works were done, one bad work would draw of criticism from people.

Police should also have some patience and not lose control. Khaddar and Khaki are always under the scanner,” he stressed. Stating that police personnel sacrifice a lot while performing their duties, especially those deployed from districts, the Chief Minister directed the DGP to make all arrangements for their convenience, especially food and accommodation.

“They stay away from families for long and out of compelling situations and financial crisis, at times, a few personnel seek ‘assistance’. If these situations should not arise, the government should extend all support on humanitarian grounds,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the department personnel should live with self-respect. Revanth Reddy said that the State government had decided to increase the compensation to be paid to the police personnel, who lose lives while performing duties.

Accordingly, for constable and head constable ranks, Rs.1 crore compensation would be paid and for Sub-Inspectors and circle Inspector ranks, Rs 1.25 crore, DSP rank, Rs 1.

50 crore and IPS rank officers, Rs 2 crore would be paid. Similarly, compensation would also be paid to the families when personnel suffer permanent disability. This apart, one job would be offered to the families when personnel lose their lives on duty.
