DEFENDING champions Civpac Amesii held off North West Wizards with a 49-23 win in the POM Elite Basketball women’s pre-season match last Thursday at the Sir John Guise Stadium. Betty Wong and Joyce Wereh silenced the Wizards with a dominant display, combining with point guard Marca Muri. Amesii led the first quarter by four points and never looked back, as they had the advantage with having a full bench present, while the Wizards exhausted its players and didn’t have enough reserves to back them up.
Skipper Cindy Elavo who returned to the courts after taking some time off didn’t take long to fall into the team’s rhythm as they restricted Wizards from scoring any baskets. In the second quarter, Amesii frog-leaped Wizards by 17 points to lead 25-6. The Wizards struggled to match the Amesii pace.
They led the third quarter 36-13 and were unstoppable in the last to win easily. Coach Garry Suve said despite it being the pre-season they are not taking any games lightly..
