Fatorma Mulbah said all he needed was a chance heading into NFL Draft weekend, and now he has it. The former Susquehanna Township, Penn State and West Virginia defensive tackle didn’t hear his name called across the seven-round affair, but he is signing with the New York Jets, according to his agent, Brett Tessler. “Had a lot of interest elsewhere but this was the perfect opportunity,” Tessler wrote on X.
The New York Jets are signing my client Fatorma Mulbah (NT/DT, West Virginia) as a rookie free agent. Had a lot of interest elsewhere but this was the perfect opportunity. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Mulbah is a native of Liberia.
His parents, Stephen and Kona, won their nation’s lottery to be able to come here when he was young. Mulbah said he never saw snow and didn’t know what a football was before arriving in Pa. Susquehanna Township High coach Joe Headen said that Mulbah didn’t even know what a three-point stance was when he got to high school.
But after just a couple of seasons playing football, his combination of size, strength and intelligence — he ended up with two degrees, including a master’s — helped him catch college recruiters’ eyes. Harrisburg’s Donte Kent ‘blessed, honored, ready to put in work’ after Steelers take him in NFL Draft ‘American Dream’: Fatorma Mulbah used football to open doors. He hopes the NFL is next Abdul Carter worked with Micah Parsons’ trainer.
Here’s how he compared them Micah Parsons’ guru: A young Pa. high school coach is helping build the NFL’s most explosive defender He signed with Penn State, and despite being raw, managed to get some reps in a deep defensive line room. Mulbah transferred to West Virginia for his final two seasons and had a particularly strong senior campaign with 50 tackles and a sack for the Mountaineers.
“You know my story very well, and where I came from, and how this football process came to be,” Mulbah told PennLive earlier this week. “I am thankful for every opportunity I get. I know I’m going to get a chance and look forward to that, and that is just my mindset.
I’m going to a team, and I’m going to make an impact for them. “I can’t even put it into words,” Mulbah added emotionally. “I remember having this conversation five, six years ago.
Football man ...
I got two degrees. I was able to go to school for free. I got to build meaningful relationships from different backgrounds.
It has been a dream come true, I will say that.” Headen told PennLive that Mulbah, and this moment, was the definition of “the American dream.” “The great thing about it is, wherever he ends up, he has put himself in line for a lot of opportunities in life,” Headen said.
“This is a kid who came to our country from Liberia, who never played a sport before, and now he has a chance to go to the highest level. “As a coach, as a mentor, it’s what you want for every kid,” he added. “That is the dream.
