Ajmer: Ajmer Municipal Corporation (AMC) has lost the 22-year-old case over Imperial Club , now known as Ajmer Club . The civic body's application was rejected by additional district and sessions court on April 9. The court found AMC was unable to prove any of its contentions about Ajmer Club, which was established in 1882 and was taken by the club members on a 99-year lease for Rs 50 per month.
The adjoining servant quarters were also taken on lease for the same period by the club members for Rs 53, 14 annas and 3 paise. AMC had earlier lost this case in 2011. Now, judge Amar Verma of the additional district and sessions court No.
3 rejected AMC's application. Advocate Manish Sharma of Ajmer Club said that AMC asked the club, which is run by its president Dr Rajkumar Jaipal, in 2002 to vacate the premises and the servant quarters, saying the lease papers were not submitted after 1948 and that the lease expired in 1981. AMC also alleged the club organisation sold parts of the servant quarters illegally.
The court called the witnesses and, after hearing every side, observed that Ajmer Club's organisation had already paid Rs 13,182 by cheque. One witness confirmed that the receipt of getting the lease money was issued by AMC on July 20, 1968. The court also observed that parting with portions of the property is within the rights of Ajmer Club's organisation as per the lease deed issued.
