This quick turnaround is enabled by the company’s latest drone, the MK30, which recently received FAA approval to operate beyond the visual line of sight. However, there are some restrictions. Only items weighing five pounds or less qualify for drone delivery, though Amazon reports that about 50,000 products meet this criterion.
Drones will also operate only during daylight hours and under “favorable” weather conditions. According to Amazon’s blog, “Currently, we do not offer drone delivery at night, or during heavy winds or rain.” This launch follows Amazon’s recent decision to end its California-based Prime Air program.
While the company continues drone deliveries in Texas, it also plans to expand drone operations into Europe soon..
