BELLE PLAINE — The Bird Island Bullfrogs are in the final eight of the Class C state amateur baseball tournament. Bird Island advanced with an 8-1 win over the Kimball Express on Friday at Tiger Park. The Bullfrogs play at 11 a.

m. Sunday in Green Isle against the winner of the Bemidji Blue Ox and Waconia Lakers. Bemidji and Waconia play at 11 a.



m. Saturday in Belle Plaine. The winner plays again at 4 p.

m. Sunday in Green Isle. The Class C championship game is at 1 p.

m. Monday at the Mini Met in Jordan. Bird Island’s own Jordan — Jordan Sagedahl — shut down Kimball’s offense.

The right-hander struck out 11 over six shutout innings to secure the victory. He also was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Trent Athmann went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Bullfrogs.

Shawn Dollerschell was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Logan Swann added two hits and a run. The Bullfrogs look to return to the championship game for a second straight season after losing to Maple Lake in the 2023 final.

Austin Ruehle was 1-for-4 with a run and Matt Friesen went 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Express. Bird Island 8, Kimball 1 Pitching (ip-h-r-er-bb-so) - Kimball: Matt Dingmann (L) 4.1-5-2-2-2-8, Zak Wallner 0.
