Farmer Amanda Owen narrowly escaped suffering a head injury while filming for her Channel 4 series, Our Farm Next Door . Owen, her former husband Clive and their nine children have come together for the new season focused around the ambitious renovation of a derelict farmhouse called Anty John’s. In a bid to surprise the children on their return from school, Owen recruited friend and neighbour Kelly to help her secretly furnish the farmhouse with Christmas decorations.
As their plan unfolded, strong winds blew a hard hat off Kelly’s head as she climbed up a ladder, the head gear just missed Owen as it plummeted to the ground. After becoming a small screen star on Channel 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm series, the Owens have been at the centre of several spin-off shows, with their new renovation project at the heart of the latest TV deal. During the episode, Owen confessed she and her former partner Clive had been spending a lot of time working on Anty John’s farmhouse and decided to do something to “make the kids smile”.
She explained: “I want to bring the kids up here when we break up from school and I want them to see there’s some Christmas decorations. “It’ll be funny. The first Christmas Anty John’s seen for one hundred years.
” Amanda and Clive separated in 2022 after 22 years of marriage, but the couple maintain a close relationship and have continued working at the family’s Ravenseat Farm together since the split. As Kelly climbed a ladder to set up the Christmas decor, she called out: “Just go steady guys because it’s so windy.” Before Owen could respond, the hard hat Kelly had been wearing slipped from her head and flew towards the star.
“Did you see that?” Owen called out in shock, “I was nearly injured by a hard hat there! ‘Doof’, good grief!” Stormy weather has stalled the renovation process at the site, which Owen has confessed left her feeling “helpless” at times. She explained: “It’s going so slowly at the moment. We come back and it’s like what’s been done? A few more slates.
” She added: “I need it to move on.” In the series so far, the fierce Yorkshire winter has caused the project to fall months behind schedule, but the family remain committed to giving Anty John’s new life. Our Farm Next Door continues on Monday 4th November from 9pm on More 4.
