Grace Van Patten has been seen as Amanda Knox on the set of Blue Moon recreating the famous yet sinister kiss. But shockingly, the new Hulu drama has a very famous producer who was once caught up in one of America's biggest presidential scandals of all time. Grace has taken on the role of Amanda Knox, with Giuseppe De Domenico taking on the role of Raffaele Sollecito In the first look images, Grace can be seen planting a kiss on Raffaele in front of investigators who had recently arrived at the scene where Meredith Kercher had been murdered in Perugia.
The property where the murder took place has been rebuilt in the town of Olevano Romano in a bid to avoid any further heartache following Meredith's murder. Amanda and Raffaele recreated the infamous kiss which sparked controversy outside of the murder scene which led to Knox's character being branded a "sinister seductress". At the time, Amanda slammed those criticising her and and and Raffaele, explaining that they had been consoling one another, physically, as they didn't speak the same language.
Elsewhere in the cast, actor Franceso Acquaroli has taken on the role of the magistrate, Magnini, with Roberta Mattei also appearing in the drama. But, fans will be shocked to know that Monica Lewinsky, famous for her involvement with former American President, Bill Clinton during her time as an intern at the White House between 1995 and 1997 has also been seen on the set. Activist Lewinsky serves as a producer on the show, alongside KJ Steinberg and Warren Littlefield as they explore Knox's 16-year journey after being convicted of Meredith's murder.
Meredith, a British exchange student from the University of Leeds was brutally murdered in the Italian town in 2007. Her body was found dead on the floor of her room, with bloodied fingerprints at the scene being identified as her roommate, Rudy Guede. Both Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito had also been charged following the hideous crimes.
They were subsequently jailed for four years but upon Knox's release, she instantly returned to the United States. Knox had been found guilty of stabbing Meredith. Both she and Sollecito pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Meanwhile, Guede was tried in a fast track procedure and in October 2008, he was found guilty of the sexual assault and brutal murder of Meredith. He was delivered a 16-year sentence for the sickening crimes. However, on December 4, 2020, an Italian court ruled that he could complete the remainder of his sentence carrying out community service.
He was released from prison on November 24, 2021. Meanwhile, both Knox and Sollecitio were eventually annulled by the Supreme Court on March 27, 2015. The annulment ensured that they would be acquitted of the allegations and the case would come to an end.
However, the show has come with its own fair share of drama. The mayor of the city where Meredith was brutally murdered has apologised for allowing the Hulu drama to be filmed there. When crews arrived to the medieval city, they were faced with banners reading: "Rispetto per Meredith," translating to "Respect for Meredith.
" Vittoria Ferdinandi has apologised to locals in the area and stated that she had overlooked "the people and their sorrow, which is still alive in them." Defending her decision to allow the drama to be filmed in the town, she said it "would have been filmed in any other town in our region" and stated that by allowing them to film, the local government had more say in what was filmed. Francesco Maresca, the lawyer for Meredith's family stated: "We've already spoken about this case too much and at a certain point you have to close the chapter.
" She went on to add: "However, Knox does not want to close the chapter. This continuous stirring is a demonstration of a lack of sensitivity. She earns money, obtains visibility on the television after many years .
.. It seems that Knox does not want people to forget about this story and does all she can to keep it alive.
" Meredith's sister, Stephanie said in a statement that her sibling "will forever hold a lasting legacy in friendship and kindness that no media can change," adding that she felt "an in describable void" following the murder of her sibling. Amanda had initially accused Patrick Lumumba of the murder but earlier this year, told a court she wrongly accused him after being put under police pressure. "I am very sorry that I was not strong enough to resist the pressure of police," she said, adding: "I never wanted to slander Patrick; he was my friend.
" Now aged 37, Amanda has two children and devotes her time to advocating for criminal justice reform and fighting against wrongful convictions. Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads ..
