KUALA LUMPUR: The culture of Muslims excommunicating other Muslims has led to Pakatan Harapan losing seats in the past, and it must be stopped, says Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. Mohamad, who is also the Agriculture and Food Security Minister, said this in his speech during the launch of the Federal Territory Amanah Convention here in Sentul on Sunday (Dec 1). “Allegations against Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made Pakatan lose some of their seats in the last general elections–with even Nurul Izzah (Anwar’s daughter) losing her seat in Permatang Pauh,” said Mohamad.

“In the next general election, Amanah will be the fort against these allegations for Pakatan,” said Mohamad. At a media conference after his speech, Mohamad said he was not accusing any party. “I am highlighting the fact the act of Muslims labelling other Muslims as infidels has allowed the critics to cause division among the Muslims.

“If we let this take root among us, it will cause a split among us,” said Mohamad. Earlier, Federal Territory Amanah head Khalid Samad also called on Amanah members not to fall for provocations, which claimed that Amanah wanted specific electoral seats during the next general election without discussing it with other parties in the Madani government. “We realise that we need one another in a united government to win, and this cooperation must be nurtured and strengthened.

He also said that the act of excommunicating other Muslims halts discussion on good governance. “Politics is about ideas of how to govern and manage countries in a good way, but the culture of takfiri here, these debates and discussions on good governance become irrelevant, as those who vote for someone may be labelled as either Muslim or anti-Islam,” said Khalid to reporters..
