Amabile takes commanding lead in race for SD 18

Democrat Judy Amabile took the lead in the race for Colorado State Senate District 18 with 91.9% of the vote as of 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Democrat Judy Amabile took the lead in the race for Colorado State Senate District 18 with 91.9% of the vote as of 8:15 p.m.

Tuesday. Unity Party candidate Gary Swing had 8.1% of the vote, according to early election results.

Amabile, 66, has lived in Boulder since 1975 and has been a state legislator representing House District 49 since 2020. She is the chair of the state legislature’s Business Affairs and Labor Committee. Past board memberships include the Daily Camera Editorial Advisory Board, the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, the Community Affairs Council, Mental Health Colorado, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Good Business Colorado.

She also co-founded and ran Product Architects, the makers of Polar Bottle, for 25 years. Her top priorities are improving treatment for people with serious mental health conditions, climate action and housing availability and affordability. Swing, 56, has lived in Boulder for three years, plus four years previously and has been in Colorado for 30 years.

He has experience as a public policy researcher, a cultural events promoter and a produce receiver. He is the secretary of the Unity Party of Colorado, the former co-chair of the Green Party of Colorado and former vice chair of the Colorado Coalition for Fair and Open Elections. Swing’s top priorities are election reform, a steady-state economy based on environmental sustainability and single-payer universal health insurance.

Amabile has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado Boulder. Swing has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Colorado..
