The Texas A&M women’s golf team finished the first round of the Carmel Cup tied for third after Adela Cernousek fired a 4-under 68 Friday at the Pebble Beach Golf Links. Cernousek, the reigning NCAA individual champion, shot a 4-under 68 to begin her senior campaign. The freshman mended her two bogeys on the front nine with two birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 and then recorded 10-straight pars to end the day tied for eighth. Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio carded a 2-over 74 after the first 18, securing her a share of 12th going into Saturday.
Lauren Nguyen shot 3-over 75 in the first team event of her Aggie career, tied for for 18th after the first round. Mia Nixon and Kynadie Adams rounded out the lineup tied for 31st and 41st, respectively. The Aggies were tied for third with Vanderbilt, while Mississippi State (+3) and Arkansas (+1) held the top two spots.
