I’M A SENIOR in high school today but four years ago, my future looked very different. I was homeschooled by my single mom for most of my early education. She gave everything she had to help me succeed.

But when I reached high school, I wanted more —more opportunities, more challenges, and a chance to grow. Thanks to the Education Freedom Account (EFA) program, I found exactly that. For the past three years, I’ve attended a private school that’s helped me thrive.

I’ve been challenged academically, supported personally, and surrounded by people who believe in me. I’ve made close friends, discovered new interests, and started dreaming about a future I never thought possible. But what if I hadn’t received that scholarship? I’ve seen how education options can change lives — including mine.

One of my closest friends was being bullied at her old school. She was stuck, and her mental health was suffering. A scholarship gave her the chance to transfer — now she’s flourishing in a school that values her.

There are so many students like us — kids who are overlooked, under-challenged, or unsafe in their current school. Some are gifted and need to be pushed. Others are struggling and need a lifeline.

None of them chose their circumstances. But we can choose to help them. EFA programs give students options.

They open the door to an education that fits each child — not one-size-fits-all, but one that matches their needs and dreams. I know because I lived it. Without that opportunity, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

I wouldn’t be preparing to graduate with confidence in my future. School choice gave me a chance and every student deserves that same opportunity, no matter their background or ZIP code..
