Alumni Update: Vacaville grad leaps to another pole vault title at Washington State

FAIRFIELD — Vacaville High School graduate Gavin Dimick catapulted high into the air for a victory in the pole vault Saturday at the Jeff Rahn Classic in Spokane for his Washington State University Cougars.

FAIRFIELD — Vacaville High School graduate Gavin Dimick catapulted high into the air for a victory in the pole vault Saturday at the Jeff Rahn Classic in Spokane for his Washington State University Cougars. The sophomore won the men’s competition with a jump of 15 feet, 7 inches. Dimick has four wins this season and six for his career.

His best personal-best came in late February when he leaped 17 feet, 0.75 inches to win the MPSF Indoor Championship, against in Spokane. Here’s a look at how other college athletes fared at four-year colleges last week.



Sophomore sprinter Gianni Miles (Rodriguez) won the 100 meters Saturday at the Chico State Invitational with a time of 10.48 seconds. Miles joined the 4x400 relay for third (3:21.

Graduate student and outfielder Andreyes Palacios (Rodriguez) went 8-for-16 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored for Simpson in games against Nevada and Providence Christian. Graduate student and infielder Brian McClellin (Vacaville) went 6-for-14 at the plate with two home runs, four runs scored and four RBIs for Pacific in games against Cal and Cal Baptist.

Graduate student and outfielder Kenny DeCelle (Vacaville) was 6-for-15 with two doubles, a home run, four RBIs and one run scored for the University of San Francisco in matchups with Washington State and Loyola Marymount. Sophomore infielder Landon Troutt (Rodriguez) went 5-for-14 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI as the U.S.

Merchant Marine Academy had games against City College of New York and Purchase. Sophomore catcher-infielder Kaden Wilde (Rodriguez) finished his week 4-for-16 with three triples, five runs scored and an RBI for Cedarville in games against Ohio Dominican and Malone. Junior infielder Connor Ross (Solano) went 1-for-9 for Cal Baptist in matchups with San Diego State and Pacific.

The one hit was a big one, a home run. Ross also scored two runs and had two RBIs. Junior infielder Kevin Parker (Solano) had a single in a pinch-hitting role and scored a run as Utah Valley lost to Grand Canyon 10-4.

Sophomore pitcher Nathan Schikore (Rodriguez) had one start and threw seven innings in a no decision. Schikore allowed 10 hits, just one earned run and three walks. He struck out three batters.

Senior pitcher Victor Martinez (Rodriguez) pitched twice for Santa Clara over a combined two innings against Gonzaga. Martinez allowed five hits, four earned runs and two walks. He also struck out two batters.

Freshman pitcher Finn Chapman (Vacaville) made two appearances for Saint Mary’s on the mound against Fresno State and San Diego. Chapman worked a combined three innings and allowed two hits, one earned run and two walks to go with five strikeouts. Junior pitcher Aidan Russell (Vacaville) made two appearances for San Diego State in games against Fresno State.

Russell worked a combined 1.2 innings and allowed one hit, no earned runs and no walks. Senior pitcher Logan Piper (Vacaville) made one appearance for Cal in a 14-8 win over Pacific.

Piper threw 1.2 innings and allowed no hits, no earned runs, one walk and struck out two batters. Sophomore outfielder-pitcher Connor Broschard (Rodriguez) had one appearance on the mound for Lewis and Clark.

Broschard pitched one inning and allowed no hits, no earned runs, and no walks in a 9-4 loss to Linfield. Junior shortstop Kate Tobola (Rodriguez) was a solid 8-for-16 with a double, seven runs scored and three RBI as Dominican California played Azusa Pacific and Jessup. Sophomore outfielder Karylne Manuel (Vacaville) had two pinch-running appearances.

Sophomore outfielder Ka’Liyah Gipson (Vanden) went 5-for-12 with a double and four runs scored as Jackson State played Memphis and Alabama State. Senior utility player Sydney Davis (Vacaville) went 3-for-7 with an RBI for Stanislaus State during games against Cal State Monterey Bay. Sophomore infielder Jaidayn White (Rodriguez) went 3-for-7 with two runs scored and an RBI for Cal State Monterey Bay in the series with Stanislaus State.

Sophomore outfielder Aniya Lawson was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore catcher Katelyn Kilgore (Rodriguez) went 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI for Colorado-Colorado Springs in games against Colorado State-Pueblo and Black Hills State. Senior outfielder Kristy Regalado (Solano) was 2-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBIs for Georgian Court in games against Chestnut Hill and Molloy.

Freshman utility player Ayanna Frank (Vanden) had two hits and scored a run for Alabama State in the series against Jackson State, which featured fellow Vanden graduate Ka’Liyah Gipson. Senior infielder Bianca Belo-Diaz (Vanden, Solano) finished her week 2-for-18 with a run scored for Shawnee State over six games against West Virginia Tech, Rio Grande and Indiana Southeast. Senior outfielder Tai Wilson (Vanden) went 1-for-9 with a run scored for Seattle in a series against Grand Canyon.
