FAIRFIELD — Cal senior Maddie Williams finished second in the gymnastics all-around with a score of 39.600 at the Tuscaloosa Regional Final on Sunday in Alabama. The Buckingham Charter graduate and Dream Xtreme Gymnastics Center alumni trailed only top-ranked all-arounder and Olympic champion Jade Carey (39.
700) of Oregon State. Cal finished third and did not qualify as a team for the NCAA Championships on April 17 in Fort Worth, Texas. But Williams will compete as an individual competitor.
Williams took home a share of both the vault (9.90) and the uneven bars (9.95) titles, giving her four wins over the weekend and seven podium finishes.
She nearly earned the first perfect score of her career after receiving two 10s on her bars routine. Prior to the regionals, Williams was named an All-American on bars for the third straight year. She entered the weekend competition ranked fourth in the nation with a 9.
945 average. She is the highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference gymnast in any single event. Williams was also a second-team All-American in the all-around.
Women’s Gymnastics Graduate student Jaudai Lopes (Buckingham, Dream Xtreme) was named second-team all-Mountain West Conference in the floor exercise. Lopes averaged a score of 9.820 and went over that mark six times during the season.
Women’s Golf Sophomore Nikki Chindavong (Rodriguez) tied for 17th for Nevada at the University of San Francisco Invitational on the Olympic Club Lake Course. Chindavong finished 11-over with rounds of 71, 75 and 78 for a 224 total. She had five birdies, 34 pars and played the par-5s with an even score.
Freshman Darla May Dela Torre (Rodriguez) tied for 34th for Sacramento State at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, which was played at the Ak-chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Arizona. Dela Torre had rounds of 80, 75, 75 to finish 14-over at 230. Track and Field Freshman Skye Odom (Vanden) competed at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles.
Odom finished eighth in the triple jump (38 feet, 0.75 inches) and took 11th in the long jump (16-10.75).
Sophomore Gianni Miles competed for Jessup at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal. Miles finished second in the 100 (10.48) and was sixth with the 4x400 relay team (3:24.
80). The 4x100 relay team was ninth (42.21) but set a school record for the second week in a row.
Armijo sophomore Cierra Kinsey competed in Berkeley for UC Davis. Kinsey was ninth in the 200 (24.90) and 16th in the 100 (12.
46). Baseball Graduate student and outfielder Andreyes Palacios (Rodriguez) had six hits in 10 at-bats for Simpson during games against Westcliff. Palacios hit two doubles, scored four runs and finished with four RBI.
Sophomore catcher-infielder Kaden Wilde (Rodriguez) went 4-for-12 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI for Cedarville in three games against Ohio Dominican. Junior infielder Connor Ross (Solano) went 4-for-6 with a home run, double, two runs scored and four RBI for Cal Baptist in an 11-5 loss to Grand Canyon. Graduate student and infielder Brian McClellin (Vacaville) and senior outfielder D.
J. Scott (Rodriguez) played in games for Pacific against San Jose State and Loyola Marymount. McClellin was 3-for-13 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Scott finished 4-for-16 with six runs scored and a double. Sophomore infielder Landon Troutt went 4-for-20 with five runs scored, a triple and one RBI for the U.S.
Merchant Marine Academy. The Mariners had games against Baruch, St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn and Manhattanville.
Graduate student and outfielder Kenny DeCelle (Vacaville) went 2-for-15 for USF in games against Cal State Northridge and Gonzaga. DeCelle hit a home run, scored two runs and finished the week with three RBIs. Senior pitcher Victor Martinez (Rodriguez) threw four innings in a 6-5 loss to Pepperdine and had no decision.
Martinez allowed four hits, no runs and one walk to go with two strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher Nathan Schikore (Rodriguez) pitched 6.1 innings in a 7-6 loss to Whitworth but had a no decision.
He allowed seven hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out five batters. Junior pitcher Aidan Russell (Vacaville) made two appearances in relief for San Diego State against USC and Air Force. He worked 1.
2 innings and allowed five hits, three earned runs, three walks and struck out three batters. Senior pitcher Logan Piper (Vacaville) made a brief appearance for Cal during a 6-4 loss to Clemson. He did not record an out and walked two batters.
Sophomore Connor Broschard (Rodriguez) had a pitching appearance for Lewis and Clark in a 5-2 loss to Pomona-Pitzer. Broschard worked 1.1 innings and allowed six hits, six earned runs and one walk to go with one strikeout.
Softball Freshman shortstop Mia Zabat (Vanden) and freshman outfielder Kiah Silva (Vanden) had strong weeks for Saint Mary’s. Zabat was 7-for-17 with three runs scored, three RBI, a double and a home run. Silva finished 6-for-10 with a double, triple, four runs scored and an RBI.
Freshman utility player Ayanna Frank (Vanden) went 4-for-11 for Alabama State, scored three runs and drove in one in games against Alabama and Mississippi Valley State. Senior outfielder Tai Wilson had two hits for Seattle in games against Cal Baptist. She also scored three runs and had two RBI.
Senior pitcher Dariana Orme (Vanden) had one no-decision for Baylor in a 14-6 win over Houston. Orme pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs and three walks.
Junior shortstop Kate Tobola (Rodriguez) had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Dominican California in a series against Concordia-Irvine. Sophomore outfielder Ka’Liyah Gipson (Vanden) had one hit in eight at bats and scored three runs for Jackson State in games against Florida A&M. Freshman first baseman Maalia Cherry (Vanden) had a hit and two RBI for Cal State Bakersfield in an 11-2 win over Cal Poly.
