Brownsville Allen Edward “Big Al” Young, 78, of Brownsville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in Waynesburg Rehabilitation Center. He was born February 22, 1946, in South Carolina, to the late Tory and Magnolia McBeth. Allen loved serving his country, in the Army, and in Vietnam.
He would help anyone in need. He built a church called The Full Gospel Church-Deliverance. He enjoyed working at Giant Eagle in Oakland.
He loved eating at Wendy’s and soul food. Allen enjoyed fishing, driving, walking, listening to music, spoiling his grandchildren, and watching the news and sports with his special friend, William Knight. Allen was predeceased by his grandson, Andre Smith; brothers, Leroy, Lawrence, and Emslie; his sister, Margaret; daughter, Carmen Smith; nephews, Tyrone Smith and Eric Dorsey; and niece, Tiffany Watkins.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; children: Erving (Brandy) of Mableton, Ga.; Wilfredo (Felicia) of Grindstone; Allen of Pittsburgh; and Danny and Lisa of Virginia; brothers, Howard McBeth of Brownsville, Ronnie of Pittsburgh; sisters: Donna and Geraldine of Atlanta, Ga.; Elzene (Bunny) of Virginia, Roberta (Bird) Davis of Monessen; 27 grandchildren, 33 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.
m., the t ime of a funeral service, Saturday, October 19, in The Full Gospel Church- Deliverance, 6th Street, Hiller, PA 15444, with military honors and Bishop Karl Jackson officiating. Interment Tuesday, October 22, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
