This new 'All You Need is Kill' anime will be animated by Studio 4°C. The novel All You Need is Kill is getting a new anime adaptation from Studio 4°C, and the art style looks suitably trippy with it. If you are not familiar with the science fiction novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka , you will likely know of its Hollywood adaptation from 2014 called Edge of Tomorrow , starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

The premise involves an alien invasion of Earth, and one of our soldiers is seemingly stuck in a time loop, trying to find a way to win the war. In addition to the Hollywood movie, we also received an excellent manga adaptation that I reviewed a few years back . While the Hollywood movie strayed quite a ways off from the original novel in terms of the story, the manga was far more faithful.

The manga also did a much better job of handling the power armor that the protagonists wear to fight the aliens, rather than the weird, almost home-made-looking powered suits we saw in the movie. The interesting thing about this new anime, though, is that this will be a different interpretation again, telling the story from a new viewpoint, and this is where the new art style comes in. While Studio 4°C is handling the actual anime production, Warner Bros.

Japan is funding this new anime. The latter is noteworthy, as Warner Bros. also financed the mind-bendingly excellent Scavenger’s Reign .

This new take on All You Need is Kill really gives off those otherworldly Scavenger’s Reign vibes, and I am entirely on board with that. However, I do wish that we would eventually get a more faithful adaptation of the novel’s plot in anime or live-action form at some point. The manga did a great job of handling the story, especially its highly kinetic action sequences, and while this new anime does look to have impactful action, I wish the story wasn’t an all-new interpretation again.

For now, though, a new All You Need is Kill anime adaptation is on the way, and it looks like it could be interesting, regardless of what narrative direction it decides to go in.
