BBC's esteemed medical drama Doctors is set to say its final goodbyes this month with the final episode airing on Thursday November 14. The soap wrapped up filming months ago, but fans can catch the concluding episode of the acclaimed series later this month, after a notable 23-year run. The network signalled the end for Doctors in October last year, revealing the heavy-hearted resolution to conclude the journey.
Speaking at the time, the network said: "We have taken the very difficult decision to bring daytime drama Doctors to an end after 23 years. With super inflation in drama production, the cost of the programme has increased significantly, and further investment is also now required to refurbish the site where the show is made, or to relocate it to another home." Doctors has been a launching pad for numerous celebrities throughout its two-decade history.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke, The Crown star Claire Foy, and Killing Eve's leading lady Jodie Comer have all appeared on the soap since its inception on March 26 2000, reports The Mirror. A host of other stars have also graced Doctors over the years, such as Eddie Redmayne of Fantastic Beasts fame, Nicholas Hoult, Sheridan Smith, Call The Midwife's Helen George and the star of Lucifer Tom Ellis, among many others. The Liverpool-born actress has since become an A-list star, sharing the screen with Ryan Reynolds in the 2021 film Free Guy. Jodie has since also soared to A-list stardom thanks to her leading assassin role in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Killing Eve. Claire Foy, who shot to fame as Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix 's The Crown, had a role in a 2008 episode of Doctors called The Party's Over as Chloe Webster.
The 40-year-old actress has since shot to global fame with her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix 's The Crown, which she starred in alongside Matt Smith from 2016. Her performance in the first two seasons earned her Best Actress awards at both the Golden Globes and Emmys. Emilia Clarke, known worldwide as the Mother of Dragons, made her acting debut in a 2009 episode of Doctors called Empty Nest as Saskia Mayer.
Since then, she has gained immense popularity for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones. She has also established herself in the film industry, starring in Last Christmas, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Me Before You - to name a few hit blockbuster movies. Nicholas Hoult, who appeared in a 2001 episode of Doctors titled Unfinished Business as Conor Finch, went on to star in About A Boy alongside Hugh Grant and Rachel Weisz in 2002.
The 34-year-old actor then landed a leading role in the 2007 teenage drama series Skins as Tony Stonem. Since then, he has starred in Hollywood films such as Mission: Impossible, The Favourite, Tolkien, the X-Men series, Mad Max: Fury Road and Deadpool 2, among others. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, now a global star as both a writer and actress, appeared in a 2009 episode of Doctors titled Chef's Secret as Katie Burbridge.
The star, 39, went on to write and star in her own hit series Fleabag, which is based on her one-woman routine first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Phoebe also created the hit assassin drama Killing Eve with Jodie and Sandra Oh taking on the leading roles of Villanelle and Eve Polastri. Eddie Redmayne starred in a 2003 episode of Doctors called Crescendo as Rob Huntley before taking on the leading role in J.
K. Rowling's movie franchise Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Since his early acting role in Doctors, Eddie, 42, has since won an Oscar for his portrayal of late Professor Stephen Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything.
