All Pacific states except Niue and Palau, have been targeted by US tariff increases

The fallout from Donald Trump's new reciprocal tariffs is still being felt across the world including in the Pacific, where all Pacific Island nations have been impacted except Niue and Palau. It's caught many by surprise, and has prompted public criticism including from Fiji's Government. The Australian Nationals leader David Littleproud suggests Pacific leaders don't understand how much leverage they have with Beijing, and says he wants Pacific nations to take a "more aggressive stance" towards China over climate change.

'PolyFest' - the largest Pacific Island cultural festival in the world - ended last week in Auckland. This years event is special as it marks the 50 years since its inauguration. Gavi - a multilateral agency that delivers critical vaccine programs to the Pacific - will lose two-and-half billion worth of grants over the next five years as a result of aid cost cutting measures implemented by the US.
