Bella Ramsey’s parents encouraged their love of acting from a young age

Bella Ramsey ’s parents are their biggest supporters. The Last of Us star got their first role in season 6 of Game of Thrones at 11 years old, and has their parents to thank for encouraging their career. Born and raised in England, Ramsey developed a love for acting early on, entering a drama group at 3 and then attending performing arts school.

Ramsey’s father, Alex, and mother (whose name has been kept private) backed their acting career, allowing them to leave their performing arts school at age 12 — after they secured their Game of Thrones role as Lyanna Mormont — and finish their studies online, per The Guardian . Ramsey’s mom also became their on-set guardian, accompanying them to set and managing their social media accounts. Since then, Ramsey's family has stayed out of the public eye, with the actor noting that they "want to protect that" part of their life.



“My parents were so terrified that we just sort of kept everything very private, barely did any interviews,” Ramsey recalled to LADbible in November 2023. “Up until The Last of Us , I was fairly anonymous, even though I’ve done other work." Ramsey’s parents met through music Though Ramsey told British Vogue in March 2025 that their family had “no acting history,” their parents are amateur drama enthusiasts who met through music. “I was so excited!” Ramsey told Entertainment Weekly in April 2019. “My mum was like, ‘Shhh, you’re not allowed to tell anyone!’ My best friend was there when my mum told me, so she knew, but she had to keep it quiet too!” Following their Game of Thrones casting, Ramsey’s parents allowed them to leave school and continue their studies online, according to The Guardian . They were then cast as the lead in The Worst Witch series in 2016.

“[My family] are all very proud and supportive,” Ramsey told the BBC in December 2016. When Ramsey’s first appearance on the show premiered in 2016, they explained in an interview with LeftLion magazine that they remained in character after the audition, imagining what Lyanna would do next. “After the audition, we were at the dinner table and I kept being [my character].

My mum got really scared of me because I wouldn’t stop,” Ramsey told the outlet. “If anyone started laughing at the table I just said, ‘Don’t laugh in my house. You don’t laugh at me.
