Our beloved mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and friend, left this world peacefully surrounded by her immediate family. Alice was a long-time resident of Los Angeles, having moved from Long Island, New York when she was 18. While married and raising her two sons she began a lifetime of helping others.

She embodied the Jewish concept of tikkum olam. First, she was a volunteer at Camarillo State Hospital working with autistic children and then at Children’s Hospital with chronically ill children. Later, she founded and ran Los Angeles Youth Program for 25 years.

The program provided inner city children with a two-week camp experience. In addition, she created the Family Outreach Program which helped families of children with chronic and terminal illnesses. Over the course of the 25 years, hundreds of young people benefitted from her work.

She was recognized by the Coro Foundation for her excellent leadership and her service to the children of Los Angeles. When Alice was in her early sixties, she, along with her husband Matt, moved to Scotts Valley and then Aptos. The last nine years of her life she lived, with her dog Woofie, in Santa Cruz in the community at Mariners Cove.

She loved living there and could be seen driving her red scooter about town. She also continued to volunteer, working for Meals on Wheels, Canine Companion and the Salvation Army. She volunteered at Women Care, co-leading a group of women with cancer.

She also worked at Hospice co-leading a loss of spouse group. Alice also participated in the International Student Program at UC Santa Cruz hosting various foreign students. Alice felt she had lived a wonderful, meaningful life.

She was a woman of great warmth, depth, accomplishment and intelligence. She found great pleasure in nature and took many hiking and camping trips. She was the center of our family and always loved when we were all together.

She organized hundreds of family events over the years, drawing us ever closer. She was deeply loved by her family and friends. We profoundly grieve her loss, but she will live within us forever.
