Alexandra Daddario is poised to star in a new film as the industry continues to lean into the biopic trend . The actress will play Catherine Hershey alongside Finn Wittrock, who will play Milton Hershey, as they tell the true story of the chocolatier . The movie will be directed by Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director Mark Waters with a speedy start date for filming coming up next month.
Hershey's story will be released in 2026, according to their current schedule, despite not having an official home with a distributor. Milton's story will be told on-screen, including how he came to create his famous milk chocolate and establish the town of Hershey, P.A.
which homed the factories. Director Mark was inspired by the story, saying, "Against all odds, Milton achieved great success, but unlike a lot of other wealthy men of his time, he shared his success with the working people and community around him. The core of Hershey, the movie, will be the special love story between Milton and Catherine Hershey, who inspired his greatest legacy — the creation of Milton Hershey School.
"I'm excited to have Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario to portray these two visionaries, who believed in leaving the world a better place than they found it — the kind of wonderful, true story that audiences are hungry for right now." While he's excited for the film, not everyone has been so kind. In fact, after Minecraft brain hit the film industry to much criticism, fans are far more critical of what is being pushed into the market.
"Seems like nothing is off-limits for a movie plot now," one wrote online. Another added, "Hollywood is just doing anything." "They're just making films about anything these days literally who wants this?" a third added.
While the residents of Hershey and the surrounding areas tend to know Milton's story well, the truth behind the chocolate master isn't quite known by the whole world. Milton got his start in a different candy operation, finding success with the Lancaster Caramel Company. However, when he began experimenting with chocolate, he decided to sell it for $1 million to launch his new establishment.
He settled down on the land that is known as Hershey today based on its proximity to dairy farms, which was key to his milk-heavy recipe. In fact, the Hershey Company still sources most of their milk from local farms. The town developed as Milton felt passionately about providing homes for his employees, creating a small town with amenities like public transportation and leisurely parks.
Over the years, a park actually developed into a famous theme park, Hersheypark, which includes coasters, games and more. Milton had a passion for philanthropy. When Catherine and Milton discovered they could not have children, they opened up a school for orphaned boys.
He endowed his money to the school upon his death and, today, it is known as the Milton Hershey School where low income children of all genders are able to study. While there are some haters, local residents and Pennsylvania natives are excited to see the movie come to life. "Great man! Helped so many I can’t wait to see the movie.
I read the book about him," one fan wrote on Facebook. "I’m excited I love history and nothing more Pennsylvania. Such a historic state with so many memorable influential people," another added.
A third added, "I hope they do us proud with it, alumni will have a lot to say if they don’t lol." DAILY NEWSLETTER: Sign up here to get the latest news and updates from the Mirror US straight to your inbox with our FREE newsletter..
