When Alexa Chung was announced as the new creative director and designer of British heritage brand Barbour , it made sense. Alexa was, after all, the one responsible for making a simple waxed jacket one of the chicest must-have items for festivals, and knew how to pair wellies with a slip dress better than almost anyone. And now, after seeing her first collection in her new role, it’s safe to say that she was the perfect person for the job.

The Edit by Alexa Chung landed in stores and online on September 19, with a campaign shot by Tim Walker and a collection of clothes that managed to incorporate Alexa’s iconic vintage-inspired style with the brand’s classic heritage. There are waxed jackets and wellies, of course, as well as cardigans , jumpers and quilted maxi coats , with each item named after some of Alexa’s close friends and family.

Speaking about the collection and her longstanding connection to Barbour, Alexa said: “I am so pleased to be exploring a new chapter with Barbour. Designing this collection was a total joy. My intention was to create something immediate that reflects my wardrobe, interests and style in this moment, while staying true to the brand’s epic heritage.

” One item that’s sure to be a sell out is the Barbour x The Edit by Alexa Chung Dorothy Waxed Jacket , £369, a midi-length take on her iconic festivalwear. It has all the hallmarks of Barbour’s traditional style, with a waxed cotton outer, chunky cord collar and front flap pockets, but Alexa’s fashion edge comes out in the oversized fit and red and white tartan lining, a change from the usual greens, browns and blues. It’s the perfect coat for the formidable autumn and winter weather heading our way, with a fully waterproof coating and lining that’ll keep the cold at bay.

The oversized fit is also ideal for layering underneath, whilst the midi length means you stay warm and dry from top to toe. The same can be said for the quilted jackets in her new collection, which come in both chocolate brown and navy, as well as a choice between a cropped hip-length version , £199, or a longer midi version , £249. Both feature a quilted pattern with a lapel collar, patch pockets and a button up fastening which gives them a vintage feel whilst still looking sophisticated.

In her campaign, Alexa styled them with a selection of knitwear, which includes a very on-trend red cable knit cardigan and a navy and red striped jumper , both with a boxy, slouchy fit that looks effortlessly cool and casual whilst still having a luxe feel. Another well-styled piece from her campaign is the Barbour x The Edit by Alexa Chung Natalie Waterproof Trench Coat , £349, which combines a waterproof mac with a trench coat, making it practical and chic. The Alexa Chung X Barbour collection is now available to shop both in-store and online at Barbour , as well as selected retailers including Liberty London .
