Threat for Damaging Winds, Flooding MondayThe best chance for severe weather will be from late morning through the afternoon, with additional storms and heavy rain possible into the evening hours. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few strong to severe storms could produce damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and very heavy rain. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of central North Carolina under a Level 1 (Marginal) Risk for severe storms Monday, including parts of the Sandhills and I-95 corridor. We expect the SPC to shift the risk area north and possible include portions of the Triangle.Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flooding PossibleRainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts up to 3 inches possible where storms repeatedly track over the same areas.

This could lead to flooding in poor drainage spots and localized flash flooding in urban areas, especially during the afternoon and evening. The WPC has issued a Level 1 risk for flash flooding across all of Central North Carolina..
