Twin sisters Ella and Ellexis Wejr play supporting leads in a new holiday film called 'Saving Christmas.' The film, released this year, follows the story of 16-year-old Nick who only cares for Christmas gifts and is tired of the holiday chores and family events. He wishes a little too hard and accidentally makes Christmas disappear – but he's the only one who remembers the holiday's existence.
Nick soon realizes how Christmas touched people's lives, and now must save Christmas. The Wejr sisters, both 13, share the role of Jojo, split between when Christmas exists and when it doesn't. "We auditioned for the same role," the sisters told The Star.
After a callback, they continued to audition and ended up competing with each other for the role. "We got a call from our agent that we both had booked the role, but one of us was going to play Jojo when Christmas exists (Ella) and [the other] to play Jojo when Christmas disappears (Ellexis)." Each sister related to their shared character in different ways though.
"Jojo (with Christmas) was so similar to me in how excited she was about Christmas," Ella said. Whereas Ellexis, who plays Jojo without Christmas' existence, said it was different because Christmas is a big part of her life. "I loved playing the role as it was so different from my personality and I could become someone different," she shared.
This was not the girls' first film either, having played roles in Hallmark movies and shows including 'Twilight Zone', 'Supergirl', 'Superman and Lois', 'Schmigadoon', '50 States of Fright', 'Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas', and some shows for Nickelodeon and Disney. The twins are also in a couple shows coming out in 2025. "We can't share what they are yet, but we are looking forward to seeing them," the sisters said.
Now, Ella and Ellexis will continue to work with their coaches for auditions around their school schedules at Betty Gilbert Middle School. Parents Chris and Tonya Wejr said they are very proud to see their kids succeeding. "We got to go to the premiere and it was pretty emotional for us.
They both work so hard for every audition, and we see how much work it takes to get a booking," Chris said, principal of Shortreed Community Elementary. "We know how passionate they are so to see the finished product like this, we get overwhelmed with emotion." The movie 'Saving Christmas' is available to rent on and .
"We are proud that this movie is great for families and helps you get into the Christmas spirit," the twins said..
