Alcoholic son held for murdering 81-year-old mom in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: An 81-year-old widow was bludgeoned to death, allegedly by her alcoholic son, at their Bagalagunte residence late Thursday. The victim is R Shanta Bai, and police have arrested her son Mahendra Singh, 56. Investigation revealed that Shanta Bai's husband, Ram Singh, died many years ago.

Mahendra lost his job because of his alcohol addiction, and consequently, his wife also distanced herself from him. According to family sources, Mahendra often fought with his mother for money to buy alcohol. On Thursday night, he is said to have fought with her again before hitting her on the head with an iron rod.
