ALBION Sports lost the Northern Counties East League Premier Division play-off final last season, and made an inconsistent start to the current campaign. But they are starting to hit their stride now, and they shot up to sixth place with an extraordinary 6-2 win at Goole on Saturday. The home side sit bottom of the table, but found themselves with a surprise 2-1 lead at the break, Dom Staunton finding the net for the shellshocked visitors.
But the Bradford side were outstanding in the second half, Kieran Suddards, Sumaili Cisse, Eisa Faulding, Tabish Hussain and Fernando Moke all finding the net to wrap up a big comeback win. Thackley are flying high in second, with the in-form Ben Grech-Brooksbank scoring a stunning hat-trick in their 3-1 win over Knaresborough Town at Dennyfield, the afternoon only marred slightly by a late red card for home substitute Matty Dempsey. Silsden have made a bright start to the season too, and Ellis Hudson’s late penalty gave them an excellent 1-0 victory at a strong Handsworth side.

But their fellow Bradford side Route One Rovers were playing in the North West Counties Football League First Division North. Rovers are stuck in the bottom three, but they produced a performance that gave them real reason for optimism on Saturday, as they managed a 0-0 draw at title contenders Droylesden, in spite of seeing captain Jonathan Mwembie sent off for two bookable offences. In the same division, hosts Steeton hit back from an early 2-0 deficit at Marley to level at 2-2 against Holker Old Boys, through Emerson Mitchell and a Josh Debenham penalty.
But the Cumbrians ran away with it in the second half, following a controversial spot-kick award and red card for Arley Barnes, claiming a 5-2 away win to leave Steeton stuck in fourth-bottom. Neither Brighouse Town nor Bradford (Park Avenue) were in action in the Northern Premier League East Division, but Liversedge were. They had a disappointing day at home to Emley however, the visitors coming away with a 2-0 win, despite missing a penalty and getting a late red card.
That defeat leaves Sedge outside of the relegation zone on goal difference only. Guiseley were in FA Cup second qualifying round action at Nethermoor, and they had to fight hard to grind down visiting 1874 Northwich, who play their football two divisions below the Lions. But former Avenue ace Will Longbottom broke the deadlock with a free-kick on the hour mark, before Jack Emmett grabbed his first home goal for the club.
Longbottom netted again late on to seal a 3-0 win for Guiseley and make it six victories out six in all competitions for Mark Bower’s side. Farsley Celtic had it tough at Hallam in the FA Cup, as the hosts made it look as if there was not a three-division gap between the sides. The Celts did start brightly, going 2-0 up inside 15 minutes thanks to Tom Allan and Darren Stephenson.
But former Sheffield Wednesday ace Daniel Pudil halved the deficit midway through the first half, and it took a late goal from Stephenson to eventually wrap up Farsley’s 3-1 win..
