On the Sunday morning broadcast of Love Your Weekend (March 23), Alan sat down with actors Tessa Peake-Jones and Rishi Nair to chat about the new series of the ITV detective drama that premiered last month. Set in the heart of Cambridgeshire , Grantchester follows Sidney Chambers (portrayed by James Norton), a vicar who becomes embroiled in solving mysterious misdeeds in his quaint village.

Sidney was replaced by Tom Brittney's Rev William Davenport, before Hollyoaks star Rishi joined the show as the latest vicar, Alphy Kotteram, last year. Tessa Peake-Jones stars as Sylvia Chapman, the pious housekeeper at the vicarage. During their conversation on Love Your Weekend, Alan didn't hesitate to express his irritation with one particular element of the show that consistently irks him, reports the Mirror .

He pointed out, "There's one thing about Grantchester that drives me nuts...

It's the blooming wisteria outside the vicarage, it's awful! It's false, it's artificial, it doesn't look real." A perplexed Tessa queried, "Why doesn't it look real to you?" to which Alan candidly responded, "You can tell it's not real." Tessa further questioned whether the general public would be able to discern this, prompting Alan to assert that he believes viewers would indeed notice.

Comparing it unfavourably to another period drama, he continued, "It's just like Bridgerton, it's awful," which led Rishi to remark, "It's not the first time we've heard that." Wisteria doesn't flower all year round. It flowers generally in about May/June.

" Despite Alan's insistence, Tessa clarified that the series is indeed set in early summer. The popular TV series Grantchester was given the green light for a 10th season in June 2024, with production kicking off the following month. Fans can look forward to new episodes hitting ITV screens in early 2026.

Daisy Coulam, the show's writer and executive producer, expressed her gratitude in a statement: "This show is a testament to our lovely team - the cast and crew. I'm so grateful and proud that we get to come back together for our 10th season and another glorious summer in Grantchester."
