Doha: Al Wakrah will look to cap off their AFC Champions League Two group stage campaign with a victory as they host FC Ravshan at Al Janoub Stadium this evening. Having already secured a knockout stage spot as Group A runners-up, Al Wakrah enter the match with momentum on their side. They have four points, with Iran’s Tractor FC already confirmed as the group leaders, having accumulated 10 points from four matches.
The group was reduced to three teams following the expulsion of Indian club Mohun Bagan, penalised for failing to travel to Tabriz for their October 2 fixture against Tractor SC. Despite their qualification, head coach Ali Rahma Al Marri said a win will be important for Al Wakrah to maintain form. The Blue Wave had defeated Ravshan 1-0 in their previous game.
“We are ready for the match, and our goal is to secure all three points,” Al Marri said during a pre-match press conference yesterday. “While we have already qualified, it’s important to sustain our good performances, and we will give our best effort.” Reflecting on their 3-3 draw with Tractor FC, in which they conceded a late equaliser, Al Marri expressed his determination to finish the group stage on a strong note.
“I was disappointed with the draw against Tractor FC in our last match, which we had hoped to win. Now, our focus is on finishing the group stage strongly and carrying good momentum into the Qatar Stars League,” he said. Al Wakrah will resume their domestic campaign with a clash against Al Shamal in the top flight on December 8.
Player Ahmed Fadel echoed his coach’s sentiments, underlining the team’s commitment to securing victory in the final group match. “We are fully prepared for the game against Ravshan. Advancing in the tournament is a great achievement, but tomorrow’s match is not just a formality.
We are determined to stay focused and secure the win,” Fadel said. While Al Wakrah aim to consolidate their form, Tajikistan’s FC Ravshan will look to bow out of the tournament on a positive note, having yet to register a point in the competition..
