
DOHA: Excitement and goals filled yesterday’s matches in the second edition of the Al Thumama Ramadan Championship held in cooperation with the Qatar Sports for All Federation at Al Furjan Stadium.
In a dominant performance, Al Adaam triumphed 4-0 over Al Zaeem, maintaining their top spot in the tournament. Faisal Khalifa Al Lanjawi of Al Adham was named the best player of the match.
In the second match, the Nusoor defeated Tariq bin Ziyad 3-2. Mohammed Hamad Al-Maliki of Tariq bin Ziyad, the youngest player in the tournament, won the best player award, presented by Abdul Redha Mahdi Al Majed, owner of Al-Majed Jewelry House, one of the tournament’s supporters.
The competition remains fierce, with teams vying for top positions.
Prizes include QR 5,000, a cup, and medals for first place; QR 4,000 and medals for second; and QR 3,000 and medals for third. Other awards include best player, top scorer, best goalkeeper, and ideal team, each worth QR 2,000.
With 39 goals scored in 20 matches so far, the tournament has seen thrilling action.
The highest-scoring match was a 7-0 victory by Yarmouk over Tariq bin Ziyad. Al Adaam’s Faisal Khalifa Al Lanjawi leads the scoring chart with eight goals, followed by Abdul Rahim Mohammed Al Boush of Yarmouk with six, and Abdullah Hassan Al Khatib of Palestine with four. Seven penalty kicks have been taken, with four successfully converted.
One match was interrupted due to hail, but safety measures were promptly implemented, and the match will resume when conditions improve.
