PM Narendra Modi paid tribute to Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair during his visit to Haryana. Akshay Kumar thanked Modi for acknowledging Nair, whom he portrays in Kesari: Chapter 2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to lawyer and freedom fighter Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair during his recent visit to Haryana, just ahead of the release of Kesari: Chapter 2 starring Akshay Kumar.
While he didn’t directly mention the film, PM Modi highlighted Nair’s fearless stand against British rule following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. His remarks came during the inauguration of several key projects, including the Hisar Airport. Now, Akshay Kumar has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging Chettur Sankaran Nair, the very historical figure he’s set to portray in his upcoming film Kesari: Chapter 2.
On Monday (April 14), Akshay Kumar took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share a video clip of PM Modi’s speech in Haryana, where the Prime Minister is seen remembering Chettur Sankaran Nair and his contributions. “Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. It is so important that we as a nation, especially the younger generation values the great women and men who fought valiantly to ensure that we breathe in a free country," Akshay wrote.
He added, “Our Kesari Chapter 2, is a humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted." Take a look: On April 14, PM Modi had praised Kerala-born lawyer Chettur Sankaran Nair for his courageous stand against the British following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He spoke about the Baisakhi celebrations in Punjab and noted that the day also marks 106 years since the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
“There was Baisakhi in Punjab, but it was also the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. One aspect of this massacre has remained in the dark — it is a humanitarian issue. There was a man named Sankaran Nair, whose name many may not have heard.
He was a prominent lawyer holding a high post in the British government. He could have enjoyed all the perks and luxuries, but he chose to give it all up," the Prime Minister said. He added how Nair, hailing from South, felt deeply for his fellow countrymen from Punjab and decided to stand up for them against the British empire.
“Though he was from Kerala and the incident happened in Punjab, he fought the case and moved the British. Sankaran Nair ensured that the British government was brought to the court of law. This is what makes India great — one India, a united India," PM Modi added.
During his speech, the Prime Minister hailed Nair’s significant contributions and urged every citizen to remember his lasting legacy. He said, “The people of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh should know about Sankaran Nair. Every adult and child should be aware of his contributions.
We must remember him — he is an inspiration and a symbol of our patriotic spirit." Meanwhile, Kesari 2 stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday. The film releases on April 18.
