Actor and musician Gippy Grewal is currently enjoying the success of his recently released film Akaal: The Unconquered . Having released just yesterday, April 10, 2025, the film received remarkable positive reviews from critics as well as the audience. However, it seems like the film has found itself in trouble, just a few hours later.
Based on the life of Sardar Akaal Singh, set in Punjab in the 1840s, the movie has sparked controversy and outrage among the members of the Sikh community. A post shared by Gippy Grewal (@gippygrewal) Senior Sikh leader Baba Bakshish Singh, an esteemed member of the community, has condemned the film for allegedly disrespecting Sikh values and hurting religious sentiments. Quoting a report by the news agency, IANS, India Today reports, that according to his claims, the movie depicts Sikh characters indulging in inappropriate and disrespectful actions like “consuming alcohol, tobacco” and appearing as mundits (without unshorn hair).

' In his argument he mentioned that such misrepresentation in portrayals damage the community’s image. The senior leader further mentions that since the film intends on reflecting the legacy of historical Sikh warriors like Jassa Singh Ahluwalia or Hari Singh Nalwa, the makers and the actors involved should responsibly portray such figures with “dignity, historical accuracy, and respect.” A post shared by Gippy Grewal (@gippygrewal) Singh also allegedly accused the government of supporting the filmmaker and claiming that their intention was to undermine Sikh history.
