Passengers who add their flight to the “My Trips” section of the app can see their baggage information automatically after check-in. Air India, one of India’s top airlines, has introduced Apple AirTag integration with its baggage-tracking system and mobile app. This allows passengers using an iPhone, iPad or Mac to securely track their luggage in real time.
With this move, Air India has become the first airline in Asia to offer this service. Air India’s mobile app and website already allow passengers to track their baggage using real-time updates from airports. Now, those who add their flight details to the “My Trips" section of the app will automatically receive baggage updates after check-in.
They can also track luggage by scanning the barcode on their baggage receipt. Dr Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at Air India, said:"We are confident that our guests will find the baggage location capability offered using Apple’s AirTag and Share Item Location feature along with Air India’s real-time baggage-tracking system on its website and mobile app quite helpful." If a bag with an AirTag goes missing, here’s what to do: Report it: Visit Air India’s Baggage Counter at the airport to file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
Share the location: Use the ‘Find My’ app on an Apple device to generate a ‘Share Item Location’ link. This link must be shared with Air India via: Mobile App: Visit the ‘Customer Support Portal’, select ‘Baggage’, then ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’, and submit the AirTag link. Website: Visit ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ and submit the link along with the PIR number.
Air India will then send an email with a link to check the baggage status. Tracking and Recovery: Air India’s airport teams will use the shared link to locate the bag within the airport and reunite it with the passenger as soon as possible. For security, location sharing will automatically stop once the bag is returned or after seven days.
Passengers can also end tracking at any time..
