Pune: An artificial intelligence expert and his cab driver died after their vehicle crashed into a stationary truck on the shoulder lane of the Pune-Mumbai expressway around 8.30am on Friday. The Shirgaon police have identified the deceased AI expert as Sachin Mahendra Dedhia (46) of Vashi and the cab driver as Parmeshwar Shivling (57) of Dharashiv.
Shirgaon police also registered a case of rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence against the truck driver after Dedhia's cousin, Ritesh Mamniya (41) of Borivali, filed a complaint with the police. Sub-inspector Ashok Kendre of the Shirgaon police said, "Halting a vehicle on the expressway is illegal. A vehicle can be parked on the shoulder lane only if there is a technical issue or tyre deflation.
The driver of the truck informed us that the engine was overheated and thus, he decided to halt on the expressway." Kendre said, "The four-wheeler was heading towards Pune from Mumbai. Shivling attempted to overtake a car from the extreme left lane and then crashed into the rear of the truck.
" "Dedhia was travelling to Pune to deliver a lecture on AI," the officer added..
