Daniel AdajiThe Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) has pledged to collaborate with the Nigerian Agribusiness Group (NABG) to enhance food security, create jobs, and drive agricultural industrialization in Nigeria.Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made this commitment on Thursday during a courtesy visit by NABG’s leadership, led by its President, Kabiru Ibrahim, in Abuja.“I am confident that our deliberations will open up new pathways for collaboration, innovation, and measurable impact in Nigeria’s food and agricultural ecosystem,” Kyari stated.
He described NABG as a key private-sector player that unites stakeholders in the agribusiness space to grow the agricultural economy and lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.“As we work to implement Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, agriculture remains central to our efforts to create jobs, reduce poverty, and ensure food and nutrition security for all Nigerians,” he said.
Kyari stressed that achieving these goals requires “strong collaboration between the government and the organized private sector,” identifying NABG as “a vital bridge in that endeavour.”The Minister outlined areas of cooperation with NABG, including strengthening public-private partnerships, supporting the adoption of agricultural policies such as the National Seed, Dairy, and Tomato Policies, and fast-tracking strategic frameworks like the Agricultural Commodity Standards and Grading System, Climate-Smart Agriculture Framework, and the National Integrated Agribusiness Agenda. He also emphasised the importance of “deepening access to finance mechanisms for farmers and agribusiness operators” and reviewing outcomes from previous NABG initiatives that align with Nigeria’s agricultural vision.
Kyari commended NABG’s commitment to increasing private sector participation in agricultural policy and programme execution.“This resonates with the country’s drive to reposition agriculture as a business, not just a development activity,” he said.Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr.
Aliyu Abdullahi, reinforced the Ministry’s stance, saying, “Agriculture is the future of the country.”He urged NABG to “strive to engage the government at all levels in setting policy directions and regulatory reforms to enable sustainable and inclusive socio-economic growth.”NABG President Kabiru Ibrahim reiterated the group’s vision of diversifying Nigeria’s economy away from oil dependency.
“We are working together as stakeholders in the agriculture sector to drive agricultural industrialization,” he said.He also acknowledged government’s role in creating an enabling environment for agribusiness to thrive.lessThe post Agric Ministry, NABG Partner to Drive National Food Security appeared first on Pointblank News.
