What are we discussing? In October this year, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued a draft consultation for the introduction of a framework for ‘specified digital platforms.’ This framework mandates that platforms must enforce specific mechanisms to prevent unauthorized activities—such as fraudulent claims and impersonation—by monitoring content and ads, verifying certain users, and controlling content related to stock and securities advice, failing which, SEBI-regulated entities will not be allowed to work with influencers on these platforms. The framework asks platforms to deploy advanced AI and machine learning (ML) tools not only to identify and analyze content and advertisements but also to take corrective actions accordingly.
MediaNama’s event will look at the efficacy of SEBI’s regulation, the jurisdictional issues surrounding such a regulatory framework, the implementation challenges associated with the framework and the effectiveness of using AI and ML to analyse ad content. Remember, that this is a curated, virtual discussion that requires you to sign up, so don’t forget to apply to attend ..
