Ludhiana: The Khanna police on Monday arrested six persons, including member of a gang allegedly involved in smuggling cattle meat. The accused have been identified as Salim Ali, Ayub, Sabir Ali, Yusuf, Wasir, and Samir Mohammad, all from Pawat in Machhiwara area of Ludhiana. The complainant, Gurpreet Singh of Professor Colony in Bahadurgarh (Patiala) and national president of Sanyukt Gau Raksha Dal, informed the police that on the intervening night of April 12 and 13, the accused, who were involved in smuggling cattle meat, took cattle to a dense forest near Pawat village in order to slaughter them.
Police officials stated that upon receiving this information, a police party reached the spot and arrested the accused, who were slaughtering the cattle. They added that the police recovered two motorcycles, an axe, meat, and other items from their possession. The police mentioned that in addition to the arrested individuals, raids were being conducted to apprehend two other absconding accused identified as Bachu and Roman, who are siblings and residents of Pawat.
