The Hema committee report has created a significant buzz in the film industries across India. Since then, actresses from different industries have come up complaining about the incidents of sexual abuse they have faced while working. In a recent development, well-known choreographer Jani Master – who has worked with actors like Thalapathy Vijay and Dhanush – has been accused of sexual harassment.
According to reports, a 21-year-old woman filed a complaint against Jani accusing him of sexually assaulting her for several years. The police registered a zero FIR based on her complaint and transferred it to the Narsingi police station on Sunday night as her house falls under their jurisdiction. According to reports, a special panel was formed by the Telugu Film Chamber Of Commerce (TFCC) to investigate the case.
The head of the sexual harassment redressal panel, Damodar Prasad mentioned that the Telugu Film and TV Dancers and Dance Directors Associations are already notified to suspend Jani Master and discharge him from all his duties until he proves himself innocent. Damodar Prasad also mentioned that the accused recruited the woman as his assistant when she was a minor and the committee will also investigate this. Famous director Bharadwaja Thammareddy, who is also a member of the Committee, mentioned that the panel will have to submit a report on the whole issue within a timespan of 90 days from the date of receiving the complaint.
He said, “We received the complaint around 15 days ago. We have recorded the statements of both the victim and the accused. We are presently working to record the statements of the witnesses.
We will have to submit a report in 90 days. But we are hopeful that we will submit the complete report well before the due date.” BJP leader Dr Shilpa Reddy slammed Jani and asked for a detailed probe.
