A mother, worried about her son's poor performance in exams, decided to teach him a lesson about the realities of life. She sent him to work at a local snack stall, hoping the experience would push him to value education. However, in an unexpected twist, the son excelled at the job, mastering the trade in just 10 days.
Impressed by his quick success, he chose to drop out of school to pursue business instead. This story has gone viral on China's social media. In eastern China, a 17-year-old boy named Shen dropped out of school after earning 10,000 yuan (US$1,400 or Rs 1.
2 lakh) in just 10 days. Ironically, the decision was influenced by his mother, Deng, who initially encouraged him to work at a snack stall to teach him the value of hard work. Shen had been attending a culinary arts and vocational school, but his grades began to decline.
When Deng confronted him about his academic performance, Shen expressed that he no longer saw the point in studying, considering it "meaningless," according to a report published by South China Morning Post. As her son's grades continued to drop, Deng, who had been running a fried chicken stall in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, for over three years, saw this as an opportunity to expose her son to the realities of the working world. She believed that by doing so, Shen would develop a stronger appreciation for the challenges of earning a living and hopefully become more motivated to focus on his education.
With her guidance, Shen modified an electric bike into a mobile snack stall and quickly took to the work. He began selling fried chicken, which proved successful almost immediately. Ironically, Shen’s unexpected success in business further fueled his decision to leave school.
The story has garnered attention on Chinese social media. Shen’s daily routine started early, preparing food from 9 a.m.
before riding 13 kilometers to set up his stall by 4 p.m, says the report. He worked late into the night, often not returning home until 3 a.
m. This grueling schedule paid off, with Shen managing to earn 10,000 yuan in just 10 days. Deng credited his success to both hard work and the loyal support of local customers.
