Pune: The Hinjewadi police apprehended a 29-year-old Afghan citizen on Thursday for staying in India beyond his visa's expiration date, which was Dec 31, 2022. The individual was taken into custody at the Foreigners Registration Office under the Pune police commissionerate, where he was being held for questioning. Sub-inspector Datta Kale from Hinjewadi police station, while talking to TOI, said the Afghan national arrived in India in 2018 on an education visa.
"He completed some educational programs in Uttar Pradesh before moving to Pune. Initial investigations revealed that after his visa expired on Dec 31, 2022, the Afghan national relocated to Delhi for two years. He then came to Pune in Feb 2024 and had been living in a housing society on Maan Road in Hinjewadi," he said.
The police have recovered the passport, refugee card, and expired registration certificate. "A case under the relevant sections of the Foreigner's Act has been registered against him," Kale added..
