LAGOS – The death has been announced of Alhaja Bintu Morunranti Adeshina (Nee Ogunbi) of Ijaye-Ifako Local Government Area, Lagos. According to the family, the highly revered nonagenarian and devout Muslim passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024. She has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

During her life time, she was fondly called “Mama Congo”, an appellation which was derived from her frequent business trips to the Democratic Republic of Congo in her agile business days. The family recalls that she was a prominent market leader whose wisdom and leadership helped shape today’s Lagos State Market Women and Men Association. One of the grandchildren relished: “My grandmother devoted herself wholeheartedly to her local community and was deeply religious.



” Until her passing, Alhaja Adeshina served as: Iyaloja General of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Iyaloja of Araromi Market, Iju Station, Lagos; Apase Adini of Omo-Ojuile Central Mosque, Iya Alaje Adini of Iju Ishaga Central Mosque, Olori Alasatu of Aranse Oluwa Mosque, Balogun Meanwhile, her final funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Friday November 1, 2024. The family has extended deep appreciation for the show of love, support and empathy displayed so far by friends, associates, market associations and various groups in the Muslim community since her demise. She is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
