The Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department, Mangat Ram Sharma, inspected the ongoing maintenance work at Mettur dam on Thursday. The maintenance works at Mettur dam include 16 gate ellis surplus sluices, right and left bank, and dam powerhouse at a cost of ₹20 crore. On Thursday, the Additional Chief Secretary inspected these works and discussed with the officials the progress of the works.
Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma told reporter it was a routine inspection before water release from the dam for delta irrigation. It was expected that Chief Minister M.
K. Stalin would visit Mettur and release water from the dam for delta irrigation on June 12 this year. The maintenance works started two months ago and steps were taken to complete these works before June 12, Mr.
