Actress Shomi Kaiser's bail stayed

The chamber judge has stayed a High Court (HC) order that granted ad-interim bail to actress Shomi Kaiser in an attempted murder case filed with Uttara East Police Station.Justice Md Rezaul Huque, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, passed the order.Earlier, a petition was filed by the state seeking to stay the HC order. The chamber judge passed the order on Thursday after a hearing on the petition. Besides, the chamber judge sent the state's petition to a regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing the matter on January 6 next year. On September 29, Ishtiaque Mahmud, a trader, filed the case with Uttara East Police Station against Shomi and several others on charge of attempting to kill him during the student movement.



Later, on December 10, the HC granted three months' ad-interim bail to Shomi Kaiser and also issued a rule asking the state to explain why she should not be granted regular bail in the case. It may be mentioned that Shomi Kaiser was arrested from a house at Road No. 6 of Sector 4 in Uttara at night on November 6.

Then a court placed her on a three-day remand for questioning in the attempt to murder case. Following the remand, she was sent to jail on November 9. END/SZA.
