Acting Gov. Dan Patrick says state is 'working hard' in recovery efforts following storm devastation

HOUSTON — Severe storms ripped through Southeast Texas on Saturday , the second day of the last three days with tornadic activity in the Houston area. Saturday’s storms caused widespread damage and led to at least one death and multiple injuries. Acting Governor Dan Patrick issued a statement Sunday saying, in part, “Please join Jan and me in prayer for the impacted families and their communities.

Resources will remain ready to support any requests for assistance from local officials. According to Patrick, volunteer organizations have also mobilized to support community needs.



"Texas state agencies are working hard to help their fellow Texans and have begun to assess the damage," Patrick said. Initial damage assessments are underway and ongoing. They've set up an online form through the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool to help assess the extent of property damage in the region. The form is available in both English and Spanish. The form will ask you several things, like whether the damage was to a residence or business, where the property is located, whether you have insurance and whether you need cleanup assistance, among other things.

Dan Patrick issued this statement today following severe weather in Southeast Texas yesterday: "Yesterday, a storm system brought flash flooding, large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes to Southeast Texas, causing property and agricultural damage.

There is one confirmed fatality, and several injuries reported across the region. Please join Jan and me in prayer for the impacted families and their communities. “There are some localized, provider-related power outages.

State officials are working to ensure electrical providers restore power to all impacted Texans as quickly as possible. “Texas state agencies are working hard to help their fellow Texans and have begun to assess the damage.” More than 300 responders and over 180 assets were deployed by the state of Texas in support of the state’s storm response, including search and rescue personnel, boat squads with rescue swimmers, and roadway safety equipment.

State emergency response and recovery resources remain engaged to support any requests for assistance from local officials in those areas. Volunteer organizations have also mobilized to support community needs. Initial damage assessments are underway and ongoing.

Texans impacted by severe weather are urged to report damage using the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) online survey by visiting damage.tdem.texas.
