FOXBOROUGH, Mass - When Vederian Lowe heard the play call in the fourth quarter, he knew it was his time to shine. The tackle reported as an eligible receiver, and he floated right into the end zone with no defender in sight. Drake Maye passed him the ball, and he hauled it in for his first-ever NFL touchdown.

“So, first of all, I’ve never caught a touchdown, ever, in any level of football that I’ve ever played at, but it’s always been a dream of mine," Lowe told reporters after the game. "Since I was a little kid, I always thought I could play tight end growing up, and I always thought I had fairly great hands. "So, I’ve been waiting for a moment like this," he added.

"I’m just glad when the play got called, everybody executed, and we were able to score a touchdown.” Everyone loves a big man TD @DrakeMaye2 | @VederianLowe : FOX pic.twitter.

com/GLaXtilRfQ Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said this is a play they have practiced multiple times. He caught the ball three times in practice, so the coaching staff decided to give it a try during the game. And it was nice that they finally had faith in him to run the play.

“I said, ‘About damn time,' Lowe said. "I have been – like I said, I’ve been waiting all my life to catch a pass, let alone a touchdown in the NFL. So, I was like, ‘About time.

’ Once they showed me the play earlier this week and running it in practice, you’ve got to give the coaches the confidence to call the play. So, we ran it in practice, I did the same thing every single time, caught it every single time. "So, I was just really glad that this in this moment, I was able to execute and make a lifelong dream of mine come true.

” Lowe had a big smile after the play, but he wasn't the only one. His teammates were beyond excited for him, with the entire offensive line rushing to celebrate. And, of course, Drake Maye was happy to be a part of this moment.

"Yeah, good hands," Maye explained after the game. "He caught them all week. I tried to give him a nice pass.

I think hopefully my mom probably could have caught it." While the game didn't end the way the team had hoped, it was a fun moment that made everyone smile. "I’m proud of V-Lowe [Vederian Lowe], and I think we had some trickery," Maye said.

"I think that kind of gets lost in the NFL, some trickery, misdirection, things like that. I think it fooled these guys in the end zone." This article first appeared on A to Z Sports and was syndicated with permission.
