Abhishek Sharma registered the highest individual total by an Indian in the Indian Premier League history. Previously, KL Rahul held the record of scoring an unbeaten 132 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2020. Meanwhile, against Punjab Kings, Abhishek rose to the occasion, and shattered multiple records, while scoring 141 runs off 55 balls at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Chasing 246 runs, Abhishek and his opening partner Travis Head wreaked havoc. The duo stitched a partnership of 171 runs and that more-or-less got the job done for the hosts. They were phenomenal, to say the least, as the duo smacked 83 runs in the powerplay.
Notably, Abhishek was handed a lifeline in the powerplay when he was caught out but it turned out to be a no-ball after Yash Thakur was found guilty of stepping out of the (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); crease.
The lifeline completely shifted the momentum in SRH’s favour. Abhishek went berserk as the youngster smacked 14 boundaries and 10 sixes during his stay at the crease. Courtesy of that, he now owns the record for the highest individual total by an Indian in IPL history.
Notably, this was the third-highest score by a cricketer in IPL history. Chris Gayle tops the list with 175 against Pune Warriors India (now defunct) and Brendon McCullum stands second with his 158-run knock against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening game of the IPL. Abhishek meanwhile also holds the record for the second-fastest century by an SRH cricketer in history and the fastest by a cricketer against Punjab Kings.
Meanwhile, SRH defeated PBKS by eight wickets and Abhishek was adjudged Player of the Match for his phenomenal innings..
