Prayagraj: Kaushambi police on Thursday rescued a West Bengal-based man, Kunal Das (35) who was abducted on Tuesday and arrested three of the kidnappers. On the night of March 25, the police received a call from Geetanjali Das, wife of Kunal Das of village Kathedi (Bhatpar Rani) in Deoria district, on dial 112 about her husband's abduction by a group of SUV-borne miscreants from Muratganj bazaar area under the limits of Sandeepan ghat police station in Kaushambi disrict. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh from the victim's wife.
The dial 112 police alerted Sandeepan Ghat police (Kaushambi police). After lodging an FIR under section 140 (1) of BNS against unknown persons a joint team of Sandeepan Ghat, SOG, and surveillance team was formed to work out the case. The joint police team, with the help of CCTV footage and electronic surveillance, managed to arrest three of the seven kidnappers.
The arrested criminals were identified as Aman Rao, Hari Shankar Singh, and Vikas Mishra, residents of Jhalwa in Prayagraj. Meanwhile, police are searching for the four absconding accused —Pranjal Rastogi, Prakhar, Aman Rastogi, and Vishal, residents of Kaushambi and Prayagraj. Deputy SP (Kaushambi) Satyendra Tiwari told TOI, "After the arrest of three kidnappers and rescue of Kunal Das, police found that Kunal had borrowed around Rs 2.
5 lakh from one Pranjal Rastogi. However, Pranjal was demanding Rs 15 lakh against the debt, including interest." Kunal was not able to pay the demanded amount and moved to his wife's parental house in Deoria.
About a week ago, Kunal arrived in Muratganj in Kaushambi to set up a rented shop at Muratganj bazaar. He was busy working on Tuesday when a group of SUV-borne miscreants arrived and abducted Kunal. The miscreants kept moving from one spot to another.
One of them made a WhatsApp call to the victim's wife in Deoria demanding Rs 15 lakh ransom. They also threatened to kill Kunal if she failed to pay the money.
