This creature appeared to have some level of intelligence, suggesting that the infected population has become more dangerous than ever. Ellie and Dina quickly reported this to the Jackson town council, warning that their safe haven may no longer be as secure as they believed. The episode also highlighted the beginning of a romantic connection between Ellie and Dina.
At a New Year's celebration in Jackson, the two shared a dance, and it was clear that they had feelings for each other. Though Dina had previously been in an on-and-off relationship with Jesse, she and Ellie seemed to be growing closer, which reflects their relationship in the video game The Last of Us Part II.
