New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP ) has retained all four ministers in the Cabinet and included only one new member - Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat . All five will be sworn in on Saturday alongwith chief minister designate Atishi . AAP chose the safe option of going with national convenor Arvind Kejriwal 's team and not change any old hands.
Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Imran Hussain will continue in the council of ministers headed by Atishi. AAP announced that Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat will be the sole inclusion in the Cabinet. With this, the Scheduled Caste community will get a representation in the Cabinet.
So far, Raaj Kumar Anand and Rajendra Pal Gautam had represented the SC community in the Cabinet. However, both have quit the party and joined BJP and Congress . This had made it essential for AAP to include one person from SC community.
Ahlawat represents the reserved constituency of Sultanpur Majra and had won by a margin of 48,042 votes in 2020 Assembly polls. The party said that chief minister-designate Atishi and her cabinet will take the oath of office on Saturday. After Arvind Kejriwal stepped down as Delhi chief minister on Tuesday, Atishi moved to establish a new government.

Gupta, Professor: Department of Finance and Business Economics, University of Delhi View Program Managing 14 portfolios, including finance, education, and revenue, Atishi played a crucial role during Kejriwal's incarceration. Atishi will become the third woman to serve as Delhi's chief minister following Congress's Sheila Dikshit and BJP's Sushma Swaraj. She will lead the government until the next assembly elections, scheduled for February 2025.
The party said that Kejriwal will leave his official residence and surrender his security within 15 days. After his release from jail on Friday, granted by the Supreme Court, Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he would step down as chief minister within 48 hours. He also said he would return to the position only if voters provided him with a certificate of honesty.
Kejriwal proposed Atishi's name at a meeting held at his residence, where it received unanimous support from the other MLAs. Atishi's rise in the party and the government coincided with the worst crisis the AAP faced since its formation with the arrest of its top leaders including Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia for alleged irregularities in now scrapped 2021-2022 excise police. Satyendar Jain seeks bail in money laundering case In another development, jailed former Delhi minister and AAP leader Satyendar Jain on Thursday moved a city court seeking bail in a money laundering case.
Special Judge Rakesh Syal issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and asked it to file its response to Jain's application by September 25, when the court will hear the matter. Jain was produced before the court after expiry of his judicial custody granted earlier. The judge extended his custody further.
He was taken into custody by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel ).
